The Cabinet Secretary announced her vision for a National Academy for Educational Leadership in November 2016. A Shadow Board, chaired by Ann Keane, former HCMI, has been working with stakeholders to develop the outline design of the Academy, including its vision, values, governance structure and leadership development framework. At the heart of this vision is an academy which is owned by the sector for the whole of the education system and one that listens carefully and collaborates with stakeholders. We therefore want to seek your feedback on the design of the Academy so far.
The Academy will be at arms length from Government, and will enable equity of access to high-quality leadership development, securing, nuturing and inspiring leaders now and for the future. While in the short term, the Academy's focus will be on aspiring and existing headteachers, in the long term it will be reached widely across the education system.
The academy will be a coherent part of the wider reform agenda. This event will explore how the Academy forms part of the national approach to professional learning and how it links closely to the new professional teaching standards reforming Initial Teacher Education, and curriculum reform.
